Angela Scott N.D.D., D.A. (Mancs)
Angela studied Fine Art and Pottery at Manchester College of Art and Design, graduating in 1964. Writing a thesis on Ivon Hitchens and corresponding with him for several years until his death, his work was to have an influence on her painting. On leaving college she became a studio potter and taught part-time at Wrexham College. Since returning to painting and after illustrating a poetry book, her work has been widely exhibited, including the Bankside Gallery in London, the Air Gallery, Dover Street, London. In addition she exhibited at the Black Sheep Gallery, Hawarden, Chester, where she won first prize in the 2000 Open Contemporary Exhibition and the Open Contemporary Prize at the same exhibition in 2001, also first prize at the Oswestry Open in 2004. Her work has also been shown apart from the Sadler Street Gallery, Wells, Somerset and Gorstella Galley, Chester, Moma Wales Open and Oriel 31, also with the Borderland Visual Art at Clwyd Theatre, Mold in 2002 and more recently The Affordable Art Fairs in London, Bristol and Newcastle. Present paintings explore movement in the landscape with its dramatic skies and fascinating light. Angela is not only interested by the shapes created by fields and paths moving through the landscape, but also by nature’s ability to create interesting features within that sphere, inviting the viewer to explore the work. The paintings are rhythmical using rich layered washes of watercolour plus sometimes pastel to give extra depth and dimension to the work. Sketchbook studies and drawings are carefully observed to bring back to the studio. The paintings evolving from this process sometimes change completely from the original observation, but then that is what makes her work exciting. |
